Welcome to SonicBloom!

Back in 2008, on the advice of friends, I took a workshop called Creative Facilitation put on by Power of Hope. On a bright, sunny weekend, I went to downtown Seattle, and stayed indoors, learning how to use theater, music, creative writing and movement to facilitate group processes. Most participants worked with youth, but I could see right away how useful these tools would be in my work with adults as an organizational development consultant. I was hooked.

Here it is, 11 years later and I’m still using those tools, as well as many others I’ve picked up along the way or invented. Add in some mediation and dialogue training, a Masters in Conflict Transformation, and eight years of program management in Myanmar, and I started to see ways of combining all these things. Two years ago I found my way to a Training of Trainers with Musicians Without Borders, which has wonderful tools for designing and facilitating small- and large-scale music experiences in service of a more peaceful world. I thought, “It’s time. I need to bring music back into my life more fully.” That was the birth of SonicBloom.

Stay tuned for weekly blog posts on topics related to music and social change, music and health, news and resources. And remember:

The ocean refuses no river, and the sky refuses no song.

So lift up your voice, and fill the heavens.
