ABOUT SONICBLOOM

Music moves us. It can propel us to the dance floor or calm a racing heart. And if we know how to use it strategically, music can transform our societies too, connecting us across our differences, helping us use our voices, teaching us to listen better, and healing our bodies, hearts, and minds.

Music offers benefits that can be employed strategically in work ranging from conflict transformation and community engagement to resilience building and cultural exchange.

Through SonicBloom, I help individuals and organizations use music as a tool for personal transformation, and social change. Working in the United States and Southeast Asia over the past 10 years, I’ve combined my love for music with my commitment to building more peaceful and engaged communities. Whether you are a community organizer, a social worker, an activist, an artist, or a musician, I can help you bring music to social change work through the following offerings:

BIO

Music has always been an important part of my life – helping me through difficult times, connecting me to community, and helping develop my creativity. While I enjoy performing and touring, my real passion lies in using music as a tool for dialogue and helping develop the creativity of others. Music is powerful medicine, and a wonderful tool for teaching and fostering community.

I hold a BA in Art from California State University, Long Beach, and an MA in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University’s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. I am also certified in Mediation from King County Dispute Resolution Center, Creative Facilitation from PYE Global, and have attended all levels of Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience (STAR). I received community music training from Musicians Without Borders and attended a year-long, international vocal improvisation course, All the Way In.

I currently teach singing, rhythm and improvisation, and lead the Strand Singers Choir in Yangon, Myanmar. I consult and offer training with a wide variety of organizations on peace-related topics, often using arts-based facilitation, and serve as an advisor for Building Better Societies in Rakhine, Myanmar.
